INSET for Teachers & Educators
Tues 10 June 10am-3pm
For Primary & Secondary Teachers & Educators
What do children learn from their experiences of watching film?
This session will explore the suggestion that children learn a good deal from watching films. They learn about narrative structure, visual style, genre and character and they learn to recognise point of view and respond with an open mind to ambiguity. These are all important aspects of a child’s learning across the curriculum.
The first half of the day will be spent looking at case studies demonstrating film and media being used effectively as a stimulus, resource or shared experience in the classroom. The second part of the day will be spent using ideas from the morning session to plan and share programmes of activity based on a range of short films and film clips from the Showcomotion festival.
This INSET is being run by Becky Parry, formerly a teacher of English and Media with 17 years of experience of enabling children and young people to enjoy, analyse and create media.
Teachers and education practitioners are invited to bring with them curriculum guidelines or specific learning objectives to enable them to devise a scheme of work relevant to their own area of work.
Suitable for teachers and education practitioners of all key stages and curriculum areas.
Free to teachers who make group bookings at Showcomotion, otherwise £15. Lunch is included.
Please contact Kate Allen (admin@showroom.org.uk or 0114 276 3534) to book a place. Please include the details of the age group and curriculum area you are particularly interested in.
